Hello all, I have AVG antivirus version 7.5. I know that the latest version is 8.0. The downside is that version 8 is inaccessible and hard to use. I'd stay with 7.5, but I keep getting these notification screens that talk about the new AVG version. How in the world do I get rid of these screens. Thanks a lot.

you can't get rid of them, and the latest update patch to jaws seems to work with the new AVG interface from what i understand. i haven't tried it myself, so i wouldn't know.

I've been using AVG 8 for a few weeks, it's working great over here.

HTH.

It works if you use the jaws curser. You could go in to the tools menu and have it scann the whole computer. I like it because it runs in the background, and you don't need the window open.

Also try to right click the system tray icon of it. You can perform some things from there such as the update. But it updates every day anyway. One thing that i liked more in 7.5 is the fact that a dialogue used to appear when it was updating itself but this one doesn't seam to let us know.

I personally can't stand AVG, I much prefer NOD 32 as my Antivirus software. On a friend's computer, he found 151 viruses or potentially harmful programs that aparently, AVG wasn't able to catch. It does update itself often, but are you really safer using something that's completely free? Of course that choice is yours, but Nod 32 is the best out there. It's extremely screenreader friendly, no using any JAWS cursor or anything, mousing around to find what you want. It's right there in a nice tree view interface that's easy to find. I'll admit some of the entries in there are kind of strange when you first see them, but the help explains everything. It monitors e-mail, instant messages, and even Outlook files if you enable that feature. I know y'all love AVG and that's great, but I just can't take that kind of a risk with my machine.

Yeah I loved that dialog too. Perhaps NOD32 found spyware? The older AVG antivirus didn't scan for spyware. The new AVG internet security has safeIM, safeSerf, safeSearch, a firewall, antirootkit and a couple other things. And the new AVG free 8 scans for spyware!!!

the AVG full did have anti-spyware in it from the beginning. you have to pay for it. same in version 8.

Yeah, but AVG 8 free now comes with it, without having to download any extra software from them. And it now scans for spyware and reports it automatically with the resident shield. You can get the update at The Grisoft free software page.s

HTH!

I use the jaws curser, and like I said you can find the scan in the tools menu. You can schedule scanns by accessing the tools>advanced settings. You might have to minimize it then go back to if if the menu doesn't pop up like it's supposed to.
